Systematic investigation of relation between roughness of hull surface and resistance augmentation; report is given of -- measurements of roughness on shell plates of new ships and on shell plates of specific ship 1 and 5 yr after construction; roughness measurements and resistance tests on test plates of actual ships, on plates lifted from sea after submersion and treated in same procedure as in case of ship's docking, and on plate from shell plates of tanker 15 yr old in order to investigate effect of difference in fouling process.
