Since its inception, Russian program is divided into following areas of study, artificial Earth satellites, deep space probes, and biological experiments which include man-in-space program; efforts made in these areas are reviewed and examined showing that main trend is directed to development of effective manned spacecraft used for scientific experimentation and military applications; experiments carried out with maneuverable satellites(Polyet series); attempt is made to classify missions as well as to define three different types of Cosmos satellites.
