Survey of state of art and present use of control moment gyros; fundamentals of systems, derivation of equations for promising configurations, and problems encountered in some space vehicle attitude control applications; techniques generated to overcome these and predictions of high accuracy performance from analog computer and air-bearing simulator studies are presented; systems are capable of controlling spinning or nonspinnig vehicles and may be used in active or semipassive mode; simple two-degree-of-freedom coning suspension gimbal structure that retains and possesses no major gyroscopic cross-coupling is proposed.
