Differences, especially distances, between earth surface communications and space telemetry are outlined and constraints on transmitter and receiver in space vehicles are noted; improved components and improved data handling are described; mathematical techniques, modulation and pulse modulation; telemetry systems which have actually been used in Pioneer and Mariner programs; installations of deep space instrumentation facility at Goldstone, Calif.
