Ability to hover at fixed point in space is achieved accurately only with great deal of pilot effort because four integrations occur between pilot's input and resulting displacement of aircraft; by means of feedback proportional to helicopter's translation and its derivatives, hover augmentation system (HAS) reduces pilot effort; implementation of HAS is achieved by use of automatic pilot sensors and special computer to perform axis conversion from aircraft-axis system to earth-reference system; results of verification studies.
