Indices are derived for comparing risks to different categories of road users in number of European countries; high risks of death for all categories are found in central group; relatively low risks for all categories are found in Scandinavia; higher than average risks to motor-cyclists occur in Great Britain and there are particularly high risks to motor-cyclists and car occupants in countries with few vehicles per head of population.
