Experiments were conducted in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, Great Britain, to discover whether there is any correlation between driver' s characteristic speed and his accident rate; speeds and registration numbers of more than 31,000 cars were recorded at 10 sites on rural main roads; accident data for more than 13,000 involved cars were obtained from four local police forces; reports of investigation showed that there is U-shaped variation of accident rate with relative speed.
