Problems associated with design of loop ramp as element of interchange between controlled access highway and other intersecting highway are discussed; driver operating characteristics studied on two ramps were speed variations, lateral placement variations and lateral acceleration; speeds and lateral placements were recorded using time-lapse photography; computer was used to analyze data and tabulate speed and lateral placement distribution and statistics; analysis showed that circular loop ramp alignment is more conducive to ease of operation than elongated alignment.
