Design of Hydrofoil Research Vehicle One (HRV-1) is based on modified 1960 Lake LA-4A amphibian; research program was carried out over 4 1/2-yr period by Thurston Aircraft Corp, Sanford, Me; program provides low-cost aircraft with which to test hydro-ski/foil installation in scaleddown configuration, adequate to obtain operational results of fullscale operation of open-ocean seaplanes, along with correct cavitation numbers and required high Froude numbers; tabulation of HR V-1 flight-test comparisons.
