High-mobility vehicles for military purposes incorporating features that no other cargo carriers have are tested at U S Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station at Vicksburg, Miss; they are called 10×10 and 8×8 because all wheels on each vehicle are powered; 10×10 wheeled vehicle and tracked vehicle are composed of control and engine unit in front, and separate 5000-lb cargo unit in back; wheeled 10×10 has low-pressure, wide-profile tires that are 40 in. wide and 52 in. in diam; 8×8 wheeled vehicle is divided into control unit in front, cargo unit in middle, and engine unit at back; separate units have "inching" system that allows one unit to stand still while other travels forward 24 in.; preliminary test results.
