Lunar surface geology in light of information obtained by United States unmanned lunar missions, as well as Soviet mission Luna 9, is considered; characteristics of lunar terrain are analyzed including roughness, distribution of rubble, craters, slopes, fracture structures, and bearing strength; previous predictions are refuted, modified or confirmed and new conclusions are reached, which will be useful in vital selection of manned lunar landing site.
