Survey of makes and types of vehicle operated by independent concerns in South Wales Traffic Area confirms overwhelming popularity of Bedford models but reveals that Leyland engines and vehicles are also particularly widely favored; there are 82,000 public service vehicles in country of which about 26,000 (32%) belong to BET Tilling or Scottish group undertakings, 18,000 (22%) to municipalities and 8000 (9 1/2%) to London Transport; remainder, 30, 000 (or about 36 1/2%) are owned by independent operators; tabulation of vehicles purchased by latter in South Wales, Mar 1966 to Feb 1967.
