Trends in truck haulage for open pit mines are being determined on drawing boards of manufacturers and operators of off-highway haulage vehicles; major manufacturers of diesel engines are working on large high speed engines; some engines are still on drawing boards, others are on test vehicles operating in open pit mines; solar Saturn gas turbine has been used to power two M-100 Lectra Hauls at mine operated by Anaconda Co; General Electric motorized wheel system, with extensive experience behind it in railroad application, has proven just as reliable for trucks, providing means of applying additional horsepower in larger trucks.
