Built by Societe Provencale de Construction Navales for Messageries Maritimes; square funnels have been developed, fitted with large cowls; another peculiarity is straight form of cruiser stern; stem is also straight; length overall 465 ft.; gross tonnage 9927.80 tons; total passengers 578; hull is divided into 8 water-tight compartments; propelling machinery consists of two sets of Sulzer-type two-stroke single-acting engines, each having eight cylinders 600 mm. in diam. by 1060 mm. stroke.
