Successful experience gained by Deutsche Werke A.-G. of Kiel in electric welding, in connection with construction of cruiser Karlsruhe, together with intervening naval experience, points to ultimate adoption of welding in larger merchant ships; various points to be observed in considering this eventuality are discussed.
