Comparison of pure helicopter, winged helicopter, tilt-wing propeller VTOL-STOL aircraft, and fixed-wing direct-control STOL aircraft to determine effect of their configuration characteristics on agility performance; maneuvers included horizontal acceleration and deceleration performance, normal load factor capability, turning performance, and attack maneuver that combines decelerating turn with straight-line acceleration; winged helicopter was found to have best agility performance up to its top speed of 180 knots; tilt-wing propeller has best acceleration and normal load factor capability.
