Main goals for design of high-performance propulsion system using airbreathing cycle would be high engine performance to permit substantial reduction in propellant and tank weight, total system weight, and overall dimensions, compared to rocket system; performance of supersonic combustion and problems related to structural design; combustion and mixing process; theoretical and experimental data show that supersonic processes can be used efficiently in hypersonic ramjet practical in size for launch vehicles as well as hypersonic aircraft.
