Crane helicopter concept; constructional details and special features of Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane, which is capable of lifting loads as heavy as 9 tons to accomplish variety of military and commercial operations; nature and importance of stability and handling characteristics and their interdependence under various loading conditions, are examined by considering control sensitivity and short term angular response, long term stability, and horizontal maneuverability; S-64 Skycrane is used as example to show effects of extreme loading variations on these characteristics.
