First radio-pulse soundings of topside of ionosphere were obtained during 2 rocket flights at NASA Wallops Island facility, performed as part of NASA S-27/S-48 Topside Sounder Satellite Program; objective of program is investigation of ionosphere above height of maximum ionization of F2 region; results of rocket tests and review of overall NASA S-27/S-48 Topside Sounder Satellite Program are presented.
