Present evidence suggests that life exists on Mars; program of orbiters and unmanned landers is indicated; orbiter has advantage that it provides information concerning large areas and long intervals of time, permitting observations of seasonal and secular changes in Martian surface features; intercomparison of Martian and terrestrial organisms, on biochemical and on morphological levels, can provide general perspective which is currently lacking in biology.
