Potential capabilities of these systems for unmanned and manned exploration of Mars are considered relative to those of other systems, primarily nuclear heat-transfer rockets; for unmanned explorations single electrically propelled vehicle weighing about 25, 000 lb and using 250-450 kw power system with specific weights in vicinity of 10 kg/kw would be capable of performing most of interplanetary probe missions.
