Survey of factors that might influence design of multipurpose entry vehicle indicating general class of entry vehicle that shows promise of affording versatility without large penalties for aerodynamic performance; areas considered include entry velocities extending from circular into hyperbolic regime, entry modes involving trajectory calculations, deceleration, corridor width, relation of heating and heat protection, weight of entry vehicles, and landing; it is concluded that concept of multipurpose manned entry vehicle is feasible.
