Problems that have arisen in development of ballistic missile, orbital, and space systems made it necessary to evolve specific wind-tunnel test techniques to assure valid experimental investigation; basic principles of following techniques -- jet simulation; rocket booster base heating; transonic pressure fluctuation measurement and prediction; dynamic stability investigations; magnetic model suspension; large-model tests at supersonic speeds; and image model technique; areas in which further technique development is needed are outlined.
