Plant, situated near Bolzano on Brenner Railway, is most powerful hydroelectric installation in Europe; includes basin of 63.8 million gal capacity; headrace in tunnel 9.05 mi long, etc; consists of two independent plants for production of current at industrial and at railway frequency; for former 5 sets, each composed of Francis turbine of 45,000 hp, are employed.
