Built by New York Shipbuilding Corp, Camden, N J, for Socony Vacuum Oil Co, New York; length oa 500 ft 1 1/2 in.; beam molded 65 ft 9 in.; depth to upper deck at side molded 37 ft; propelling machinery consists of De Lavel double-reduction geared turbine designed to develop 4000 shp at 75 rpm; steam supplied by three Foster Wheeler A type oil-fired water-tube boilers.
