Variable response helicopter is used by Langley Research Center, NASA, to study aircraft handling qualities at low speeds; results of studies of control power and damping are used to construct boundaries or zones showing satisfactory combinations for roll, pitch, and yaw; criteria for minimum acceptable control power and angular velocity damping; criteria which are functions of both gross weight and moments of inertia about respective axis are found to be very useful in VTOL test-bed programs.
