Phenomenon found by E.N. FALES (see Engineering Index 1955 p 491), that decelerating moving plate makes boundary layer unstable and flow turbulent even at low Reynolds numbers, is applied; waves of overtaking train, created during acceleration and deceleration, are destroyed by use of wave breakers and beaches; results are for 4 ft 6 in. to 12 ft long models of Lucy Ashton, in Ship Model Tank at Indian Inst Technology, Kharagpur.
