Investigation of long rectangular mild steel plate clamped at edges and subjected to uniform normal load; analysis of plate behavior is given support by experimental work, which also suggests that analysis is valid for panels of ship plating with side ratio of 3:1 or more; simple formulas which can be used to obtain practical load carrying capacity of elastically restrained ship plates.
