Vegetation is guide to trafficability; because virgin soils have not been compacted by clearing process, their cone indices are substantially lower than those of cleared and cultivated soils; trafficability of virgin soils is probably lower than that of cleared and cultivated soils; no useful correlation was found between trafficability and engineering properties of silts.
