Locomotive, designed for general service on Manchester-Sheffield-Wath lines, has four force ventilated, nose suspended motors giving total of 1860 hp at 1-hr rating, and is capable of hauling express passenger train at 65 mph on level, and express freight train weighing 500 tons at 40 mph up 1 in 125 grade, or 700-ton freight train at 26 mph up same gradient; special truck springing; constructional and electrical details; performance on test runs.
