Trials made on Swiss Federal Railways with locomotive employing gas turbo-generator set and electric transmission; design offers attractive possibilities in localities where water is scarce; gas formed in combustion chamber by combustion of oil fuel and air forced in by compressor is at initial temperature of 1800 to 2000 C and, being led to turbine blades, propels them at velocity of 800 to 850 ft per sec, and is then exhausted to atmosphere.
