Both Douglas and Lockheed are at present active with design proposals to leading United States domestic trunk route operators for medium-range aircraft in 250 to 350 seat/1800 to 2500 nautical mi payload-range bracket, Douglas with larger three- and four-engined verions DC-10, and Lockheed with two- and three-engined versions of CL-1011; studies are based on three basic high bypass engine proposals in 30,000 to 35,000 lb-thrust bracket (GE CF6 based on gas generator of TF39 for C-5A; projected R-R RB.211, and derated P and W JT9D); some design features and specification data are presented.
