Method is developed for analysis of loading and response of aircraft subjected to uniform vertical gust; body-freedoms in vertical displacement, pitch and variation in flight speed are admitted in segmental representation of aircraft; Kuessner and Wagner lag functions are appropriate to local chord, and account is taken of time differences in gust arrival at different segments; normal coordinates are used to develop response and loading solutions; transfer functions are determined for loading and for response; simplified treatment based on quasi-steady motional aerodynamic forces is included, and results of its application to transport aircraft are given.
