Shock-induced combustion of fuel-air mixtures in pebble-bed heated wind tunnel was used to obtain values of ignition delay, permitting evaluation of effects peculiar to flowing system; hydrogen, ethylene, acetylene, propane, and methane were tested; description of experiments, problem of fuel injection, implications with respect to supersonic combustor design, and performance of four injectors; results obtained and comparison with theory.
