Bird hazard to aircraft at Auckland International Airport, Mangere, New Zealand is examined; geographical features affecting hazard and history of hazard; groups and component species of birds, their daily movement patterns and seasonal abundances are covered; greatest potential danger is from waders, but gulls are greatest actual danger; measures taken or projected against birds are reviewed; special reference is made to unorthodox methods -- provision of alternative high water roosting sites, experiments with radio-controlled model simulating hawk shape, and use of gull corpses as scaring agents.
