Design background to powerplant development for Fokker F-28 Fellowship short haul airliner; latest version Mark 555-15, develops 9850 lb. static thrust at sea level; it has dry weight of 2200 lb and specific fuel consumption of 0.75 lb/hr/lb at cruising speed of Mach 0.75 at 25,000 ft; in view of heavy work load imposed on flight crews by short haul operation, care has been taken to simplify engine handling and provide responsive control throughout flight regime; altitude test facility for development testing is described.
