Paper proposes solution to ground barrier problem which is encountered in following areas -- maximum terminal capacity, internal roadway systems, automobile parking, freeways and access roads, airfreight, and noise; Los Angeles satellite airport concept developed will smooth out interfaces with all other forms of transportation for people and commodities, and will disperse volumes entering system; in course of studies, concept of downtown V/STOL Metroport has evolved; its short elevated runways are capable of handling VTOL and STOL, elevated rail, and in some cases subway system, traveling clear of ground congestion, will be vital link in transportation network.
