Autonomous capability is the fundamental ability and direct driving force of UAVs’ cross-generation upgrade. With the disruptive revolution of artificial intelligence technology, the autonomous path planning technology of UAV based on intelligent algorithm has become a key link to improve the autonomous capability of UAV, which has important research value. This paper firstly summarizes relevant studies of path planning technology at home and abroad, puts forward an understanding of the autonomy of unmanned systems, and analyzes the advantages of intelligent algorithms applied to the autonomous path planning of UAVs. Secondly, starting with algorithm improvement methods, the intelligent algorithms of autonomous path planning of UAVs, such as evolutionary algorithm, swarm intelligence algorithm, neural network, reinforcement learning algorithm and deep reinforcement learning, are classified and summarized. Finally, the future research directions for autonomous path planning technology are prospected based on the current challenges of UAV autonomous path planning.
