In accordance with the new requirements of rail law, from June 2020, a railway undertaking or rail infrastructure manager applying for a single safety certificate/ authorization should demonstrate compliance with the relevant requirements of the Safety Management System (SMS) set out in the Commission delegated regulation (UE) 2018/762. To this end, he should provide proof to the national safety authority or, where applicable, to the European Union Agency for Railway Safety, of the establishment of a safety management system in accordance with Art. 9 of Directive (EU) 2016/798. According to Regulation, the organization should describe the scope of the safety management system, indicating which parts of the business are covered by it, considering legal requirements. The publication attempts to identify necessary changes and additions to hitherto functioning SMS.
