Object and purpose of research. This paper studies hydrodynamic aspects of two moving ships jointly undergoing motions in waves. The purpose of the study is to obtain the expressions (required to perform analytical assessments) for the hydrodynamic forces exerted by disturbed fluid. Materials and methods. The study solves the above-stated problem for specified parameters of ships, their positions and navigation conditions applying the methods of hydrodynamic theory of motions. Main results. The study yielded analytical expressions for hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on each of the two ships, considering their mutual hydrodynamic effect. Typical positions of these ships (beam-to-sea and along with incoming two-dimensional waves) have been investigated. Hydrodynamic loads are the components in the equations describing the kinematics of the ships undergoing motions near each other, or the kinematics of the ship near a quay or a fixed platform. Conclusion. The relationships suggested in this paper determine the structure of hydrodynamic load and are the force components required to obtain the data on motion kinematics of ships, both moored and running jointly in waves. These navigation conditions correspond to cargo offloading and replenishment at sea. These operations, in their turn, are impossible without automatic tracking systems, and these systems cannot be designed without the data on kinematics of ships in waves.
