One of the most significant issues for the railway is the issue of ensuring timely and high-quality restoration of the rolling profile of wheelsets in operation. The article discusses the relevance of improving the efficiency of wheelset restoration technology, analyzes the latest research and publications on the issue. Defects that occur during the operation of wheelsets and the causes of their formation are considered. The analysis of existing and promising technological processes for restoring the rolling profile of railway wheelsets, in particular by surfacing and mechanical processing by cutting on wheel lathes and wheel milling machines, is carried out. The advantages and disadvantages of each of the recovery methods are considered. The cutting tool used for processing on machine tools is considered, the advantages and disadvantages of each type of tool and cutting blocks are given. The analysis of the actual stability of LNUX 301940sn-DM carbide plates made of SH alloy by Pramet Tools (Czech Republic) when they are used on wheel lathes based on the Pokrovsk car depot of the Donetsk railway is performed. Conclusions are drawn about the prospects for further research in the direction of possible improvement of the efficiency of processes for restoring the rolling profile of iron wheelsets.
