The aim was to develop a procedure for the assessment of acoustic properties of new brake blocks based on measurements of acoustic wheel roughness on a brake test bench. The project intention was the closure of the open point in Annex F of the revision of the TSI Noise (Regulation (EU) 2019/774) for the assessment of composite brake blocks. It should be examined whether it is possible to produce wheel roughness under laboratory conditions and if the wheel roughness generated on a test bench is appropriate for the characterisation of the acoustic properties of a brake block. In addition, an indicator should be introduced that combines the information obtained from a roughness spectrum measurement in a single index value.
