With the rise of novel aircraft concepts such as electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles comes the need to find solutions to efficiently and safely integrate them into our airspace structures. Existing solutions heavily rely on airspace segregation from conventional air traffic, although many use cases like passenger air shuttle services to vertiports near terminals of large airports require a more integrated air traffic management approach. This paper presents a working technological proof of concept for an automated air traffic control and flight execution process within controlled airspaces as well as a seamless integration with U-space. In addition, a highly reliable hybrid communication architecture is introduced to enable safe communication between these novel eVTOLs and associated ground stations.
