The primary goal of robotics is to make human life as convenient and comfortable as possible. In the past three-decades robotics has made a significant progress in many fields. One such field is the development and working of robotic arms/hands; they are autonomous robots essentially being used in various industrial sectors. Robotic hand is a type of machinelike arm with a different end effector. Robotic hand has many applications in various other fields as well. Various robotic hands and different gesture recognition technique were developed over a period of time which has been ever improving and adapting as the future gets closer each day. The parameters of evolution are cutting the cost, increasing the degree of freedom along with robust and accurate gesture recognition software. The goal of this thesis is to present a survey of robotic hands and its application in gesture recognition. Also, work has been done in modelling a 4 degreeof-freedom robotic arm on MATLAB and creating gesture recognition through image processing to make the robotic arm move accordingly.
