Presentado al IROS/Workshop on Network Robot Systems celebrado en China en octubre de 2006. ; In this paper we will present the objectives of a Network Robot System project denominated URUS, a European IST-STREP project of the FP6 program. The general objective of the project is the development of new ways of cooperation between network robots and human beings and/or the environment in urban areas. The focus of the project is in urban pedestrian areas, an important topic in Europe where there exists a growing interest in reducing the number of cars in the streets and improving the quality of life. In the paper we present the objectives and the goals to be achieved. ; This work was supported by projects: 'Integration of robust perception, learning, and navigation systems in mobile robotics' (J-0929), 'Ubiquitous networking robotics in urban settings' (E-00938). This work was supported by the Research Atelier on Network Robot Systems and by CICYT under project DPI2004-05414. ; Peer Reviewed
