Essential elements of a research work aiming at improving speed-flow relationships used for road planning in the Paris Region are presented. The purpose is to develop a calibration approach based data sets given by traffic control systems. The process is applied to various categories of roads: motorways, highways and signalised urban arterials. A set of new relationships is developed from recent data and adapted to the needs of decision-makers.
