Combined with existing optimization research on electric multiple-unit (EMU) utilization in China, the core issue of EMU operation is analyzed. Based on the principal of EMU operation planning, a mathematical model for EMU scheduling is established, in the conditions of paired train diagram, using EMU in uncertain railroad region, given maintenance time, place, etc. The connection between EMUs is converted to a Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) which contains many objectives and many constraints, and is solved with cellular ant colony algorithm. The feasibility of the model and the algorithm is proved by the case of Wu-Guang high-speed railway line.
