A hybrid girder was used in the Shanghai Maglev Demonstration Line. It consists of a concrete box girder and a steel functional element, and the latter does not contribute to the stiffness of the cross-section. In order to take advantage of the stiffness, the National Maglev Transportation Engineering R&D Center developed a new integrated girder. The steel functional element is replaced with a concrete functional area. Stators and guidance rails are connected to the optimized box girder with embedded parts. The gliding surface is a concrete lug and formed by grinding. One test girder was designed, manufactured and replaced onto the Shanghai Maglev Demonstration Line. The test results show that the integrated girder can meet the system requirements, which marks a significant breakthrough in the field of high-speed maglev guideway structures.
