Customized bus demand identification can help address the issues of single service mode, low service quality, and low attractiveness of traditional public transportation systems. Moreover, it can help meet the comfort, personalization and quality needs of urban public transportation. Mobile communication terminals promote mobile phone signaling data as an important data basis for studying users’ travel behavior. This study proposes a two-step method for demand identification of customized bus based on mobile phone signaling data. A framework is proposed to identify potential demand areas based on mobile phone signaling data. This study constructs an ordered Logit model to predict transition probability from different travel modes to customized bus to estimate potential transition demand of customized bus. Kunshan, Jiangsu Province was selected as the research area. The proposed method can identify potential bus demand areas and transit demands for buses. Future research may consider planning the layout of traffic routes.
