In order to identify pavement sag deformation automatically, this article proposed an automatic identification method of pavement sag deformation: fitting base level method based on assumption pavement flatness. This method is based on the 3-D data collected by automatic pavement distress detection system, and the theory in mathematics morphology: how to identify the character of vertex in concave/convex polygon. The automatic identification of pavement sag deformation can be realized by using this method. In this method, the influence like rutting, cracking etc. on the identification progress was excluded. A computer programme was compiled for automatic identification, location, classification, area calculation and graduation of pavement sag deformation. The method and compiled programme were examined by comparing data of programme and data of actual measurement in pavement sag deformation. The result shows that this method can reflect the actual configuration of pavement sag deformation and perceive the parameters of the sag deformation accurately.
